"My Songs Are My Gems of Advice" – L’Marco Shares Stories of Victory In New Album

Every year on July 20th, L’Marco gives himself the gift of his passion – music.

Whether it’s in the form of releasing a new album or performing a show, his annual tradition is not only a way to celebrate his special day, but to mark a milestone in his musical career, and to add a checkpoint to ensure he’s still keeping up with what he loves to do.

L’Marco and I hopped on a virtual meet through Zoom soon after his album was released, and in this conversation, he shares the behind-the-scenes makings of not one, but two of his most recent albums released in 2020. Here is the video of our conversation:

New Album: Lmarco Music

This year, the birthday album he released is titled Lmarco Music. It’s an album he wrote and produced, with styles ranging from dance and pop to soulful and R&B. This album differs from his past albums in that instead of musical collaborations with other artists, this time he focuses on his own specific sound. “This is purely what I have to say and how I want to say it,” he describes, “and the editing and mixing represent what I hear music to be.”

Beginning with the rhythmic chant that opens “Africa,” the energy L’Marco presents is palpable throughout the album. Enjoy it for the festivities in the music and the vitality in the beats, or take a closer listen for the messages L’Marco embeds in his songs. These messages are what he calls “little gems of advice” that he is sharing after having lived through some of life’s challenges. What better way to bond with the listener than with these sincere words sung (and sometimes spoken) to resemble an intimate conversation with a confidant?

Artistry comes in many forms. Each singer-songwriter I’ve had the privilege of meeting has his or her own unique spark that sets them apart from the others. L’Marco the musician also shines as a storyteller. His music feels authentic because he expresses personal and relatable sentiments through music and storytelling. From his Pandemic EP released in April to Lmarco Music in July, his music reacts to the coronavirus outbreak, to Black Lives Matter, and to the struggles we all relate to in life. L’Marco’s voice is the voice of the present, and when he sings, we listen.
