Meet The Creator of This Alternative Rock Band – The Holy Veins

What do you do during a pandemic when musicians are confined to their own individual spaces, unable to collaborate as they used to before?

For musician and actor Cason Day, the answer was to make a solo project where he assigned himself the roles of writer, producer, vocalist, guitarist, bassist, drummer, sound recordist and mixer. All while staying in his apartment in Brooklyn, New York.

That was the brith of The Holy Veins, a new alternative rock band project that Cason had wanted to work on for a long time, and the pandemic as well as Cason’s decision to cut alcohol out of his life, were two major catalysts that helped push the project to launch sooner than originally expected. And “Drown” was the first single released by The Holy Veins.

Cason Day featured on the Offstage Tunes Live show

Cason describes “Drown” as a song about the obsession of love – both loving a person and being addicted to the idea of loving someone – but wonders if subconsciously he was also writing about alcohol consumption.

Drink the poison
Just for fun
’Cause in the end
It was you
— Lyrics from "Drown" by The Holy Veins

Whatever influences may have helped create “Drown,” Cason Day has put his old vice behind him to focus on the release of a new acoustic version of “Drown.” He is also planning a live version where he and two to three other musicians can perform it together as soon as live music returns.
